The budget and scale of our cinema is such that even a small financial donation makes a real difference.
Art Auction
ALMOST a year ago to the day (February 15th), we ran an art auction in sound recordist Nic McGowan's Island Bay Studios to raise funds for the production of Hook, Line & Sinker. We were particularly honoured to have some of New Zealand’s top veteran artists gift works to Torchlight Film’s latest project Hook, Line and Sinker; so much generosity, kindness and goodwill from a long list of artists: Robin White, Grahame Sydney, Kobi Bosshard, Warwick Freeman, Barry Cleavin, Billy Apple, Michael Armstrong, Russell Moses, James Ross, Peter McKay, Philip Trusttum, Richard Killeen, Inge Doesburg, Clive Humphreys and Gretchen Albrecht. We would also like to thank those other supporters of our film who donated works by artists Ralph Hotere, Denys Watkins, Jane Zusters and Vivian Lynn.
Almost all these artists played a personal role in writer/director Andrea Bosshard’s childhood and teenage years in Akaroa and Dunedin in the 70’s and 80’s. Her mother Patricia Bosshard-Browne, ran Bosshard Galleries showing contemporary New Zealand art, and her father, Kobi Bosshard, played a prominant role in the development of modern jewellery in New Zealand. Andrea says, “All my life, I have been so fortunate to have been surrounded by people who have made things, who have used their hands, and who despite the obstacles, have persisted in doing what they love and understand what it takes to keep at it."
We would like to acknowledge you all, and hope that the film we deliver in May on screens around the country will in some way touch you.
We appreciate the co-operation of the following galleries who represent some of our contributing artists in Wellington: Peter McLeavey, Mark Hutchins, Bowen, Solander and Avid. We are also grateful to David Strauss of Exhibit A for framing some of the works.

“How good it is to read that some ‘younger’ persons are prepared to carry on projecting their lineage / heritage – and telling the stories that need to be told.
